Winter Lino Printing & Block Printing Workshop: Create Your Own Festive Pattern | 21 November, 10am–12pm

A Festive Winter Workshop in Block Printing, Lino Carving & Creative Table Styling
Join us at THE DRAWING ROOM for the third workshop in our seasonal collaboration with Surrey-based artist, illustrator and surface pattern designer Annabel Hocking.
Following our summer Alfresco Living: A Mediterranean-Inspired Painting Workshop, where we celebrated the colours, atmosphere and simple pleasures of summer through outdoor dining, and autumn’s Root & Gather, a slower morning of reflection, journaling and nature-inspired creativity, our seasonal series moves into winter.
This time, we turn our attention to pattern, print and festive creativity.
Our winter workshop is an invitation to slow down before the Christmas season gathers pace, learn a new creative skill and make something beautiful and completely your own.
Set within our light-filled greenhouse studio surrounded by gardens and seasonal greenery, this two-hour workshop will introduce you to the wonderful world of lino carving and block printing, with a festive twist.
You’ll be guided by Annabel to transform an image or idea inspired by winter and the festive season into your own hand-carved printing block — then use it to create a collection of unique prints for your Christmas table, wrapping, cards, decorations or seasonal home.
A Morning to Design, Carve & Print
We’ll begin by exploring pattern and festive inspiration, looking at simple shapes, botanical forms and winter motifs that can be transformed into a repeatable design.
With guidance from Annabel, you’ll learn how to simplify your chosen image and transfer it onto a lino block, before being introduced to the tools and techniques needed to carefully carve your design.
You’ll then get to the most satisfying part — printing your own handmade block.
Experiment with ink, colour, placement and repetition to create your own collection of festive prints. Your design could become a beautiful table runner, napkin detail, place card, wrapping paper, gift tag, Christmas card or piece of seasonal decoration.
The beauty of block printing is that one small hand-carved design can become an entire pattern, allowing you to create something that feels personal and completely unique to you.
You don’t need any previous experience with lino carving, drawing or printmaking. Annabel will guide you through each stage and show you how to turn a simple idea into a beautiful printed design.
This is a relaxed, hands-on workshop where the emphasis is on learning, experimenting and enjoying the process of making.
